Our Journey of Inquiry
Our classroom is working towards incorporating play-based learning through an inquiry model. This means our students engage in project work to motivate passion project designs, which can stem from their play. We work in a student led model, which nurtures the curiosity in children that leads to meaningful learning in the classroom. State standards are met by allowing the children to guide which direction our learning takes us, and we work to connect them through interdisciplinary work.
The goals for my students are to feel safe, respected, and to strengthen their voices in our classroom, so they may become critical thinkers and independent learners. This learning model supports the students in their development of problem-solving skills, both social-emotionally and in academic aspects of our learning. We strive to create an inclusive classroom, in which all students and families are connected to the learning and bring in social justice issues as topics of conversation. I want all of my students to step into the classroom ready to create a beautiful community of friendship and learning, by giving them an environment to learn in a balanced model of exploration and investigation.

As an arts magnet, we integrate art throughout our learning experience! Students are creating art pieces that represent meaningful learning for them. Each day is something creative, whether it's creating shapes with materials, drawing art in book making, using clay to represent meaningful ideas, making collages and using them as counting collections for CGI practices, or making music and small world play for storytelling!
